Although rains and the resulting high water nearby kept many from attending, Winn Hill Cemetery Association members reported “a good number gathered under the tabernacle” for the new memorial service luncheon Saturday, May 23, 1992. The business session was conducted after lunch, followed by dedication of a historical marker, directed by Association President Richard Easter.
Maxine Winn Cox told the group how she had first believed the cemetery was eligible for a historical marker, and began the process of seeing her idea through to completion. She contacted the state office, and then asked Bill Dennis, local Historical Commission chairman, to assist with the project. He agreed to help, and the marker was received a short time ago.
Scheduled to assist with the dedication ceremony, Dennis was unable to attend the meeting due to high water. In his place, Association Secretary Hazel Marley read the article Dennis had prepared to send to the state office. Several presidents recalled past events concerning the cemetery, and shared their memories with the group. Cemetery Association Vice President Vester Wilton then closed the meeting with a dedicatory prayer.
